The Bears' 2025 rookie class got off to a slow start, but has shown signs of life in recent games, with room for more growth in the final eight games of the season:

  • Tight end Colston Loveland (first round, No. 10 overall) had 11 receptions for 116 yards and no touchdowns in his first six games. But he six receptions for 138 yards and a game-winning 58-yard touchdown against the Bengals, and four receptions for 55 yards against the Giants last week.

  • Wide receiver Luther Burden (2-39) has been hot-and-cold — with 21 receptions for 225 yards in his four best games and five receptions for minus-three yards in his four worst games.

  • Offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo (2-56) not only lost the competition for the starting left tackle job but the back-up spot as well and is at right tackle behind emerging Pro Bowler Darnell Wright.

  • Defensive tackle Shemar Turner (2-62) suffered an ankle injury on the first day of training camp and never caught up. He was moved to defensive end but just suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8 against the Ravens.

  • Linebacker Ruben Hypollite (4-132), whose 4.39 40-yard dash at his pro day enticed the Bears to take him in the fourth round when he was projected as a seventh-round pick or free agent in the draft, has played 18 snaps on defense — even with T.J. Edwards missing four games with injuries.

  • Cornerback Zah Frazier (5-169) started training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list because of a mysterious "personal" issue and already has been ruled out for the season by general manager Ryan Poles.

  • Guard Luke Newman (6-195) has played in seven games, mostly on special teams. He has played three snaps on offense — not a big surprise with the interior of the Bears offensive line solid most of the season and the current combination starting the last five games.

  • Running back Kyle Monangai (7-233) has been the star of the class, with 75 carries for 390 yards (5.2 average) and two touchdowns. He's already had two breakout games — matching his season total of 81 yards with 13 carries for 81 yards against the Saints and nearly matching his season (186 yards) with 26 carries for 176 yards against the Bengals.

Loveland, Burden and Monangai in particular figures to be even bigger factors in the final eight games of the regular season and beyond, if it comes to that. But they all have a long way to go to match the best Bears rookies of all-time:
